  3. I will use time words (first, then, finally, etc.).
  4. My recount is written in the past tense.

Two very well written pieces of writing Morgan. I can see you used some time words and added detail to your writing. Next step: Use a dictionary to help you find the correct spelling of words.

Morgan has done an excellent job at publishing her writing. She has met the success criteria for this task as well. Her next steps are to check her draft after it has been edited by herself and the teacher when publishing so there are no mistakes and to work on adding full stops at the end of a sentence.

Well done Morgan!

ART portraits

WALT: Create self-portrait and painting them with water paint.

We can do this when: we use a pencil to draw ourselves with all the elements of a face and painting our portrait using relevant colours by staying within the lines.

Next step:  Use our drawing and painting skills to design and decorate our art mural.

Morgan made a beautiful self-portrait using different colours and techniques. Very impressed.

Writing

WALT: write some information about ourselves through planning and ICT.

We can do this when:  we write a detailed informative piece of writing and typing it up on a computer.

Next step:  To add more detail to my writing to make it more interesting e.g. descriptive words.

CARE certificate

Congratulations to Morgan on her bronze certificate!!!

Art

Today we took part in an art workshop with Neil Shaskey.

We were learning to: sketch a portrait.

We showed we could do this when we could:

- Draw facial features the correct shape and size.
- Position facial features correctly.
- Use shading techniques.

We really enjoyed the workshop and were proud of the art work we produced. We thought the shading was hard but we didn't give up.

Recorder

We are learning to play the recorder.
We can do this when we can play in time and play the correct notes.
Our next step is to practice and learn new songs.

Maths

We are learning to: recall addition and subtraction facts in 3 seconds or under.
We play a game with dice. Two people roll a dice at the same time. They then have to add or subtract the numbers on the two dice. The winner gets to challenge another person in the circle.
We have noticed that we are getting faster at recalling our basic facts.
Our next step is to have a practice at home with dice or on mathletics.

2014 Writing Term 4
An awesome author uses finger spaces, capital letters and punctuations.
They also give their story a title, use different sentence beginnings and they use ‘wow’ words and lots of Fast Words.

Student reflection on Oaklands 50th Jubilee:

Reading

We are learning to use our knowledge of word families and blends to work out unknown words and spell words.

One game we play to help us with our reading and writing is 'Pass The Bomb'. We have cards with parts of words, word families (e.g ing) or blends (eg. bl). When the Bomb comes to you you have to say a word that has the letters on the card in it. If the Bomb goes off you have to keep the card. At the end of the game the people who don't have a card are the winner.
E.g. One card had 'bl' on it so we said words like black, blank, blast...
Our next step is to include some of the more challenging cards in the game.
